(Lamar, Colorado; February 28, 2018) The Colorado DECA State Leadership Conference took place at The Broadmoor Hotel from Sunday, February 25 to Tuesday, February 27. Fourteen students from the Lamar High School Chapter competed at the conference.
Those who competed for the school included: Freshmen Ashley Gilmore (Principles of Marketing), Jimmy Clark (Principles of Business Management and Administration), and Devyn Kincade (Principles of Hospitality and Tourism). Sophomore Dylan McTaggart (Entrepreneurship Series Event). Juniors Max Carere (District 9 Representative, Entrepreneurship Series Event, and State Officer Campaign), Mason Martinez (Advertising Campaign), and Sandra Villasenor (Advertising Campaign). Seniors Julie Aguirre (Start-up Business Plan), Dalton Chandler (Start-up Business Plan), Alexa Comstock (Automotives Services Marketing and Innovation Plan), Davin Jacobs (Principles of Marketing), Aubrey Lawrence (Hotel and Lodging Management and Innovation Plan), Shania Jo Running Rabbit (Apparel and Accessories Marketing), and Grace Williams (Innovation Plan).
All of the students who competed represented LHS and the community of Lamar in a professional manner. The highlight of the conference was the closing ceremonies on Tuesday Afternoon. First, Senior Aubrey Lawrence was awarded a $1000.00 Colorado DECA Scholarship for her commitment to her academics, community involvement, and leadership abilities.
Second, Junior Max Carere was named the 2018-2019 Colorado DECA State President. During the 2017-2018 school year Carere served as the District 9 Representative on the State Officer Team. Carere has shown his professional and leadership abilities with his work at the State level along with his work within the LHS Chapter. The entire chapter is proud of his accomplishments and is excited to see what he can achieve during his year as State President.
Carere’s accomplishments at the conference did not end with the State Presidency, he also placed 4th in the Entrepreneurship Series Event and will compete at the International Career Development Conference in Atlanta, Georgia from April 21-24.
